My Favorite and Least Favorite Songs

I have to admit, it was difficult for me to pick a favorite song, since there are so many that I like quite a lot. However, I finally settled on the infamous Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. You can find a link for it at the bottom of this post. Bohemian Rhapsody is my favorite song largely because I like the way it sounds. There is no real intricate musical reason behind my thinking, I simply just like the way that the song as a whole fits together, between the instruments, the lyrics, and the song’s structure (or lack thereof). Perhaps one of the big reasons that I like this song so much is that it is “out of the box”, in terms of other rock songs from the same time period. Furthermore, to me, Bohemian Rhapsody is just one of those songs that everybody knows and loves. It’s one that makes the listener feel awesome when they listen to it. Again, I’m not sure what the deeper meaning behind this feeling is (or if there even is one), but every time I hear this song begin, I cannot help but belt out every word and “jam” along on my air guitar during the solos.

On the other hand, it was not at all difficult for me to pick a least favorite song, because I absolutely cannot stand the song that I picked: Santa Baby, by Eartha Kitt. You can also find a link to this one at the bottom of the post. While I took a few minutes to listen to Bohemian Rhapsody before posting a link to the lyrics, I had to pull up a YouTube video for this song (in order to find one to post here), pause the video, and then open another tab and look up the stationary lyrics, just because I could not bear to listen to this song. I do not like anything about this song. I honestly find the singer’s voice to be extremely annoying, and I find the lyrics to be really weird. While there are covers of this song that exist, even today’s pop artists cannot make this song any more likeable for me (but it also doesn’t help that I am also not a fan of them, either). The whole song revolves around the singer wanting all of these extremely expensive gifts, which just makes her seem needy and spoiled, and in the last verse, she sings about wanting Santa Claus to propose to her, and I think that’s just….creepy. As a matter of fact, her entire singing style throughout this song just sounds weirdly seductive, and it makes me want to get as far away from this song as possible. While many people probably like this song, I dislike it so much that if it spontaneously disappeared, I don’t think I would miss it.
